Join us on Tuesday, December 17 for our monthly chapter meeting with a special guest speakers:
Cybercrime is becoming more sophisticated, with victims often unaware of the risks and lacking basic cybersecurity precautions. Local law enforcement is limited in its ability to respond, as these crimes frequently originate outside the U.S., beyond their jurisdiction. Cybercriminals use stolen data, spoofed contacts, and irreversible payment methods like cryptocurrency and mobile peer-to-peer services, making them difficult to trace and leaving victims with few options for recovery.
This speech highlights the growing need for public digital literacy. How do we promote simple protective measures like two-factor authentication, privacy settings, and awareness of common scams? How can we build stronger partnerships between local and federal agencies, international cooperation, and updated laws to combat cybercrime effectively? As cybersecurity professionals, we have an ethical responsibility to empower others to protect themselves in a digital world.
